What is the Role of the President of the USA
A couple days ago I asked my mom if she was going to vote in the presidential election. She responded: “I don’t think so. Honestly, neither one is worth it”. I lost faith in the elections for many years already. Some conspiracy theorists call it “presidential selection”. There is so much manipulation from the news and in social media that one starts to question if it really makes a different to vote. Trump was just elected president and according to the latest estimate the turnout was higher than previous years. Maybe it is just my perception that people just don’t care who’s at the White House.
This brings me to the question, Who really run this global superpower? Pretty hard to believe it is the president. And don’t get me wrong, It is probably the most important job in the world. Everyone is looking at the USA right now; everyone copies and imitates, and so it has an worldwide influence. The easier way to answer that question is to say that money interest runs things. Then, we can look to the largest industries and institutions. But when it comes to the actual individuals, the answer is not so easily answered.
On top of the huge responsibility of the president’s job, we have to add that things seems to be going downhill. Inflation continues to go up, people losing jobs to AI, social media influencing people in a negative way (specially the young), among other issues. Another important matter which impact all of us is health. Since the pandemic, all health indicators are worst that ever: more heart attacks (now common in young people and even children), more cancer, anxiety, etc. So what can a president do in this uncertain times?
First of all we should be clear what is the role of the government and what are its limitations. I find it amusing that some people think that a government should provide things like food and entertainment to people. That is just a certain type of corruption. The role of the government is to create safe social relations between people, and that is possible when people act under the law, something which does not exist when lobbyists are paying politicians. Using money to manipulate policies is legalized corruption. We have the business area influencing the political area, this needs to be seperated the way church was seperated from government. People working under the area of businesses make needed goods and services available to us. Furthermore, we should have a third area separated from the other two. A human area focused mainly on education and health. We could include the media here. What we have instead is information being corrupted by money. Same goes for health; people serve an industry for the sole purpose of making money. Not an industry that cares and cures, but just seems or “tries” to do that.
If things keep going the way they are, we can expect the worst. Last time was a pandemic. What will be next? A perfectly safe thing is extremely dangerous when put in a completely different context. And that is what we are experiencing. There is an interesting quote which represent our present time, yet I don’t know the original author. This one is by Michael Ellner:
“Just look at us. Everything is backwards, everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, psychiatrists destroy minds, scientists destroy truth, major media destroys information, religions destroy spirituality and governments destroy freedom.”
The role of the president of the United States of America should be limited to a task of providing equal rights for everyone instead of favoritism and paid influence. Also, other institutions should be encouraged to limit their activities to their own area. When that is balanced out, things will work out a lot more smoother. First thing is to take money out of politicians; second, take out money out of what is personal/human realm [education/health care for example]. Now people will say that is an utopia. That we are dealing with bad, greedy people, and that will never be realized. That may be true, but we can at least try.
